Patterns by Jen-August colour challenge-PINK

Well this year has certainly held its challenges. But now for a little relaxation.

This year Jen has selected birds as her focus for determining the colour of the month and it is no surprise to anyone who followers her that Flamingos made this list. So pink it is.
I was thinking pink when I made this paper pieced flamingo designed by Janeen at Quilt Art designs. But it needed to translate into our themed block.
A wee bit of texture for feathers and a pink block was assembled. This year Jen has added the option of doing a two tone on tone block or using black or white for your background colour. I decided to try the black background and so far am liking it.
And here are six of my blocks so far. We are well past the middle of the year so you should be seeing your blocks building up.
There are several bloggers showing their spin on the pink block this month. It would be a good one for a charity quilt as there are no points to cut off, just straight stitching. Please visit these bloggers to see how they have interpreted the August block.

And if that was not enough there are prizes for linking up your finished block. Check these out.

Back to the Colour Challenge February is PINK

Last year Jen of Patterns by Jen (here) offered a monthly colour challenge. Each month had a designated colour and by visiting her blog you were given freely a 12" block and a 6" block designed for that month and colour.

The plan has changed a little for this year. Only a 12" block is being offered monthly and instead of a repeating group of 6 or 7 bloggers she has opened up the blogging to a wide variety of bloggers. She has also identified a flower that represents the colour for the month. This month's flower is Carnation.

I was doing well last year until I got sick and am hoping I am well enough now to start catching up. but first I will show you my February 2019 PINK block.

Once I had picked out my fabrics this block took less than an hour to assemble. So with a month to do the task you should be good to go. I hope you will join Jen for this monthly challenge. Stop by her blog (here) any time this month to get your copy of this free pattern. and don't forget that towards the end of the month there is a olink up party with a draw prize.  Piecefully, Joanne

Make certain to stop by the other designated bloggers for this month to see how they put together a pink carnation.

Orange for April

Jen is back again with some more blocks for April. This month the colour is orange. Often not a popular colour with some people. When my son was in grade 7 or 8 he came home from school one day very disgruntled because his class had been assigned orange for colour day. His comment was who wears orange? His teacher showed up for the assembly with orange fabric to tear into strips so anyone without orange to wear could have an orange tie. She was a gem.
For my block I found what looked like a light, medium and dark orange and constructed the block. In its photo above I am not certain the differences are that clear. Should I blame my camera and not my eye for colour?
There are other challenges and projects in the works for April. It is looking like a busy month. Make certain you stop by the other bloggers to see what they are offering in the way of challenge blocks for April. Piecefully, Joanne

Welcome to 2018 and the Monthly Colour Challenge

As we head into a new year mnay bloggers and some Instagram people offer new challenges for us to follow. One I intend to follow is the Month Colour Challenge (note Canadian spelling) offered by Jen from Patterns by Jen (here). I have tested quilt patterns for Jen for a couple of years and I love how she takes something basic and accessible, gives it a little twist to step it up a notch and creates a great design.
For 2018 she is offering on her blog a month colour challenge. Each month she will provide a different quilt block in both 12" and 6" sizes in the colour of the month. I have seen the blocks and they are original and interesting. I encourage you to follow along. Jen is being joined by some other bloggers for this project. Some like myself will just make the monthly project while others will enrich the experience by adding something via their blogs.
The other bloggers contributing to this project are:
Jen of Patterns by Jen
Sherry of Powered By Quilting
Jen of A Dream and A Stitch
Nancy of Masterpiece Quilting
Joanne of Quilts By Joanne
Dione of Clever Chameleon Quilting
Diane Cullum of Sewing with D
I "borrowed" the links from sherrie at Powered by Quilting. she is adding a second block each month. These blocks will be free for the month they are offered and then available for a small fee.
As with many blog hops there are sponsors and linky parties. I understand the first sponsor is Northcott Fabric. For all the first hand information please visit Jen's blog (www.patternsbyjen.blogspot.ca)
And now for my January blocks.
I hope you will find the time to join us as we explore colour in 2018. Piecefully, Joanne
